La philosophie de r\u00e9\u00e9valuation de Mudimbe, \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re des pratiques artistiques soutenues par l\u2019Atelier Picha, offre un cadre curatorial compl\u00e9mentaire qui apporte une bouff\u00e9e d\u2019air frais \u00e0 la Toxicit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph {\"style\":{\"elements\":{\"link\":{\"color\":{\"text\":\"var:preset|color|black\"}}}},\"textColor\":\"black\"} --><\/p>\n<p>En partenariat avec l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Lubumbashi, qui accueille d\u00e9sormais la biblioth\u00e8que personnelle de Mudimbe, la 8e \u00e9dition de la Biennale de Lubumbashi adoptera un nouveau format prolong\u00e9 et segment\u00e9, pens\u00e9 sur le long terme. Elle d\u00e9butera par un moment de rassemblement multimodal (conversations, expositions, performances, ateliers) autour de cet h\u00e9ritage monumental.&nbsp;<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Con\u00e7u comme un point de d\u00e9part, ce rassemblement vise \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper une m\u00e9thodologie d\u00e9coloniale o\u00f9 les arts et les sciences sociales et humaines jouent un r\u00f4le cl\u00e9 dans la relecture et la r\u00e9\u00e9valuation de notre histoire globale. Mudimbe a toujours insist\u00e9 sur la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de lib\u00e9rer la production de connaissances africaines du cadre de pens\u00e9e occidental. Son invitation \u00e0 nous r\u00e9inventer en dehors de L\u2019Odeur du P\u00e8re (1982), accompagn\u00e9e du retour physique de sa collection litt\u00e9raire des \u00c9tats-Unis vers la RDC, repr\u00e9sente un mouvement de restitution que nous accueillons collectivement. L\u2019odeur auquel il fait allusion dans cet ouvrage r\u00e9f\u00e9rence a impr\u00e9gn\u00e9 et intoxiqu\u00e9 l\u2019environnement naturel, socio-culturel et intellectuel de la r\u00e9gion, ce que de nombreux projets et productions soutenus par Picha ont mis une lumi\u00e8re au fil des ann\u00e9es.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph {\"style\":{\"elements\":{\"link\":{\"color\":{\"text\":\"var:preset|color|black\"}}}},\"textColor\":\"black\"} --><\/p>\n<p>Ce retour offre l\u2019opportunit\u00e9 de r\u00e9duire notre trajectoire, en faisant appel \u00e1 notre capacit\u00e9 ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 notre courage d\u2019emprunter de nouvelles voies qui r\u00e9inscrivent le capital de mani\u00e8re transversale, mais aussi de regarder l\u2019histoire diff\u00e9remment. Il est maintenant temps de faire le point sur les biblioth\u00e8ques, les formes de transmission et de production de connaissances qui ont inform\u00e9 notre perception du monde, nos pratiques situ\u00e9es et globales. En accordant une place centrale \u00e0 la pens\u00e9e philosophique de Mudimbe, tout en s\u2019attaquant a la toxicit\u00e9 ambiante, la 8e edition de la Biennale de Lubumbashi cr\u00e9e un cadre de r\u00e9flection artistique processus de recherche collaboratif et cr\u00e9atif visant la v\u00e9rit\u00e9, la valorisation des savoirs end\u00e9miques et la dignit\u00e9.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Les travaux et propositions curatoriales de cette Biennale se d\u00e9rouleront dans un esprit convivial de reprise, reprenant les nombreuses perspectives soulev\u00e9es par les \u00e9ditions pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes, et introduisant de nouvelles initiatives\/projets \u00e0 un rythme qui peut r\u00e9v\u00e9ler les potentialit\u00e9s et les enchev\u00eatrements in\u00e9vitables qu\u2019implique la philosophie appelante de Mudimbe.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:image {\"id\":397,\"sizeSlug\":\"large\",\"linkDestination\":\"none\",\"align\":\"center\"} --><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/2024.biennaledelubumbashi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/LB8_French.pdf-9-744x1024.png\" alt=\"\"><\/figure>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><b style=\"color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; background-color: #ffffff;\">Curatorial Statement<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b style=\"color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; background-color: #ffffff;\"><br><\/b><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>While the 7th and final edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale (2022) addressed the lingering toxicity of more than a century of colonialism and massive extraction in the region (Katanga \u2013 Copperbelt), the upcoming edition embraces the thought and legacy of the philosopher Valentin-Yves Mudimbe, originally from Likasi. It will explore decolonial concepts such as \u201creclaiming,\u201d the \u201ccolonial library,\u201d and \u201cgnosis\u201d (African knowledge). Mudimbe\u2019s philosophy of re-evaluation, in light of the artistic practices supported by Atelier Picha, offers a complementary curatorial framework that brings a breath of fresh air to the theme of Toxicity.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>In partnership with the University of Lubumbashi, which now houses Mudimbe\u2019s personal library, the 8th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale will adopt a new, extended, and segmented format designed for the long term. It will begin with a multimodal gathering (conversations, exhibitions, performances, and workshops) centered around this monumental intellectual legacy.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>Conceived as a starting point, this gathering aims to develop a decolonial methodology in which the arts and social sciences play a key role in reinterpreting and reassessing our global history. Mudimbe has always emphasized the need to free African knowledge production from the constraints of Western thought. His invitation to reinvent ourselves outside of <em>The Smell of the Father<\/em> (1982), along with the physical return of his literary collection from the United States to the DRC, represents a movement of restitution that we collectively welcome. The \u201csmell\u201d he references in this seminal work has permeated and intoxicated the region\u2019s natural, socio-cultural, and intellectual environments\u2014an issue that many projects and productions supported by Picha have shed light on over the years.<\/p>\n<p>This return presents an opportunity to slow down our trajectory, calling upon our ability and courage to explore new paths that redefine capital in a transversal manner while allowing us to view history differently.&nbsp;<\/p><p><br><\/p><p>Now is the time to take stock of libraries, transmission methods, and knowledge production systems that have shaped our worldview, our localized, and global practices.
